SOLIDCRAFT / FUSION 360 — WORKFLOW EVALUATION An original exercise from SolidCraft Guide, an independent community guide. Prepared: 2026-10-16 Guide path: /compare/fusion-360 This is a blank evaluation record, not a benchmark or verified migration result. Work on copies. Keep native designs and record errors as well as successes. ENVIRONMENT Date: Operating system: SolidCraft version / desktop or browser: Fusion version / personal or commercial license: Slicer name and version (if used): 1. MODEL THE PLATE Create a 60 x 40 mm sketch and extrude it 6 mm. Add two diameter 5 mm through holes, centred across the 40 mm dimension. Put each hole centre 15 mm from its nearest end of the 60 mm dimension. Initial centre coordinates relative to one corner: (15, 20) and (45, 20) mm. Optionally add 2 mm corner fillets; record which edges you selected. Record constraints, feature operations and warnings in each tool. SolidCraft observations: Fusion observations: 2. CHANGE A DIMENSION Change the plate length from 60 to 80 mm. Keep the hole centres 15 mm from their nearest end: (15, 20) and (65, 20) mm. Inspect rebuild errors, hole placement, fillets, body count and key dimensions. SolidCraft observations: Fusion observations: 3. SAVE AND REOPEN Save each tool's native design. Close and reopen it. Check dimensions, feature history and editability. For SolidCraft browser use, download the editable native design out of browser-private storage, find the file and reopen it to check the backup. Native files retained: SolidCraft observations: Fusion observations: 4. EXCHANGE GEOMETRY Preserve the original Fusion .f3d or .f3z archive appropriate to the design. Export a STEP copy of the design or active configuration from Fusion. Open it in SolidCraft. Check units, dimensions, body count and placement. Save as .solidcraft, reopen and inspect again. STEP import is a base feature; do not expect the original Fusion timeline, sketch constraints, parameters, joints, CAM setups or drawings to transfer. Exported / imported files: Dimensions and geometry checks: Missing data, warnings or errors: Reopen result: 5. CHECK PRINT WORKFLOW (OPTIONAL) Export STL or 3MF from each tool. Open both exports in the same slicer with the same scale and settings. Inspect dimensions, holes and mesh warnings. Successful export alone does not validate printability. Slicer observations: DECISION Required operations that worked: Required operations that failed or need workarounds: Data or design intent to rebuild after STEP import: Questions requiring another test: Suitable for this specific workflow? Why? A successful plate test does not establish feature parity or suitability for larger assemblies, engineering analysis, CNC production or other workflows.
